Thinking Out Of The Box

Easy to use, practical activities to activate the brain for the day ahead

'Thinking Out of the Box’ is a collection of 200 colour coded cards designed  to actively promote thinking skills in ways that are stimulating, challenging and fun.
The ‘one a day’ activities are open ended and promote a variety of  skills designed to strengthen the range of multiple intelligence learning  styles.

As society continues to change and develop just learning new information and gaining knowledge is not enough. Children need to develop their ability to produce ideas and be active independent thinkers. Thinking is a skill that can be extended and improved through learning and practice. It is important for  children to recognise that not every problem has just one solution, or indeed any solution at all.

To create balance and flexibility in developing thinking skills the activity  cards present challenges in:-Linguistic Intelligence, Logical/Mathematical  Intelligence, Visual/Spatial Intelligence Musical Intelligence ,Intrapersonal Intelligence and Interpersonal Intelligence.
There are also activities to  develop organisational, analytical, comparative, evaluative and creative  thinking.

The cards are designed to be used with the whole class at the start of each  day. The activities can be done individually or in small groups, either mixed  ability or similar ability groupings. The task can be written on a board and the  children can record their work in a ‘Thinking book’ or keep their work in a  ‘Thinking Folder’.
Each activity is designed to take at least 15 or 20 minutes.  They can be re-visited at spare moments during the day or even extended to form the basis for homework, thus sharing ideas with parents.

Modelling an activity ensures that children extend their thinking skills and  sharing ideas at the end of an activity enables children to learn from each other.
